ABSTRACT

Abstract Introduction The study is aimed to outline the vector of colorectal cancer incidence in the industrial Aktobe province of western Kazakhstan through the first decade of the screening implementation, 2009-2018. Methods Rough incidence rates and annual percent changes were estimated for each age group at diagnosis, ethnicities, gender, residences, the disease stages and anatomic subsites (total N 1128) via regression analysis. Results Within 2009-2018 colorectal cancer rates increased from 14.74 to 23.19, with annual percent changes of 4.69%. The most significant growth was traced in men compared to women, up to 28.39 by 2018, with annual percent changes 6.64% vs. 2.64% (p = 0.0009). Annual percent changes in Kazakhs reached 8.7%, whereas Slavic groups showed decline in the incidence, annual percent changes −4.3% (p = 0.002). Declining in rates was also observed in urban population compared to rural one, annual percent changes −3.3% vs. 17.6%, respectively. Patients aged 60-69 made 31% of all cases and showed the largest annual percent changes 9.37% (p = 0.002). Patients at Stage II made 61% of all observations, but general trend evidenced sharp growth in the group of Stage I (annual percent changes 28.91%, p < 0.0001). Conclusion Overall, during the last decade colorectal cancer incidence increased 1.5 fold with expected further rise. However, the increment of Stage I portion by 2018 vs. advanced stages at diagnosis and the trend to decrease in rates among urban population inspire a definite assurance in potential efficiency of the screening program in long run. The next researches on colorectal cancer should include scenarios to reveal the role of disadvantaged environment in the region and consuming unhealthy ultra-processed food.

ABSTRACT

@#Of the various root canal morphologies in mandibular molars, the middle mesial root canal is located between the mesiobuccal root canal and the mesiolingual root canal. The middle mesial root canal is a partial or completely independent extra root canal. Because of its fine structure, concealment and even calcification of the root canal orifice, it is difficult to completely clean and fill this root canal and it is easily omitted by dentists. The current study reviewed recent progress in terms of the incidence rate, classification, influencing factors, and exploration and preparation techniques of the middle mesial root canal of the human mandibular molar to provide a reference for clinical diagnoses and treatment.

ABSTRACT

Objective To determine the incidence of breast cancer?related lymphedema ( BCRL) in China and to analyze the associated risk factors. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data and the incidence of BCRL in 281 patients who were newly diagnosed with breast cancer and received surgery. The incidence of BCRL was evaluated using arm circumference measurement and Norman questionnaire. The risk factors for lymphedema were analyzed using chi?square test and logistic regression model. Results In all patients, the incidence rates of BCRL determined by arm circumference measurement and Norman questionnaire were 31?7% and 27?0%, respectively. The multivariate analysis showed that postoperative radiotherapy,a preoperative body mass index no less than 24 kg/m2 ,a large axillary lymph node dissection area, and a large number of positive axillary lymph nodes significantly increased the risk of BCRL (HR=2?87,P=0?042;HR=2?54,P=0?011;HR=1?97,P=0?037;HR=1?06,P=0?023). Moreover, patients with breast cancer and hypertension had 1?74?fold higher risk of BCRL than those with normal blood pressure. Conclusions The incidence of BCRL is still very high. However, most of patients only have mild edema. Postoperative radiotherapy, a large axillary lymph node dissection area, a large number of positive axillary lymph nodes,a high preoperative body mass index, and hypertension are risk factors for BCRL.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: The objective of this research was to determine the incidence of oral cancer in Korea. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The classifications of oral and maxillofacial cancer (OMFC) that we used are based on possible locations of OMFC: lip, tongue, mouth, salivary glands, tonsil, oropharynx, nasopharynx, hypopharynx, pharynx unspecified, and nose, sinuses. RESULTS: 1) There were 2,848 OMFC cases, accounting for 1.6% of all cancers. The male to female ratio was 2.72:1. 2) The estimated crude rates (CRs) were 5.7 overall, 8.4 for males, and 3.1 for females. The age-standardized incidence rates (ASRs) were 4.6 overall, 7.3 for males and 2.3 for females. 3) The incidence of mouth cancer was highest. The mouth and salivary glands were the most frequent sites for cancer among males and females, respectively. 4) Patients who were 40 years or older accounted for 91% of OMFC cases, with the highest proportion of cases in the 60-69 year-old age group for both sexes. 5) Tongue cancer was the most prevalent OMFC overall. Nasopharyngeal cancer was highest among males, and salivary gland cancer was highest among females. 6) From 2004 to 2008, the relative 5-year survival rate of OMFC patients was 57.5%. There was a trend of increasing survival among OMFC patients during the study period. The survival rate for females (69.3%) was much higher than that for males (53.1%). CONCLUSION: Social and personal efforts should be required to increase the survival rates of OMFC patients and Korean national cancer management policy should establish new measures for economic and social management and support.

ABSTRACT

Objective To understand the status of post-term pregnancy and associated social factors among pregnant women in Jiaxing city, from 1993 to 2000. Methods The study population consisted of 16 033 women who had delivered singleton live births in Jiaxing city, Zhejiang province, from 1993 to 2000. Chi-square test was employed to test the difference of proportions between respective groups. Multivariate logistic regression was conducted to examine the factors associated with post-term pregnancy. Results The incidence rates of post-term pregnancy were 8.7%, 10.6%, 9.4%, 7.4%, 4.3%, 2.6%, 3.3% and 4.0% from 1993 to 2000, respectively. Women who received premarital health care serviees had lower (5.6%) post-term incidence than those who did not (7.8%). Women who received county or above level health care services had lower (4.3%) post-term incidence than women who receive township level service (8.5%). Women who had primary school education had higher (11.5%) post-term incidence than women who received junior higher school education (6.8%), senior high school education (3.8%), or college education (2.9%), (P< 0.001). Farmers had higher (9.5%) post-term incidence than workers in the rural areas (8.9%), in urban areas (4.3%) or women with other professions (4.2%). Women whose husbands were rural workers had higher (9.8%) post-term incidence than farmers (9.4%), urban workers (5.0%)or with other professions (3.6%, P<0.001). Data from multivariate logistic regression showed that the risk of post-term pregnancy was associated with the length and the level of using health care services together with schooling and occupation. Conclusion The incidence of post-term pregnancy was decreasing in Jiaxing city during the period from 1993 to 2000 and the risk was associated with the length and level of health care service as well as the level of education and occupation of those women.
